John R. Whittles

210_high resJohn R. Whittles is Board Certified by the Florida Bar as an expert in Business Litigation and Civil Trial Law and is currently the President of the Palm Beach County Bar Association. John practices in commercial litigation, employment law, constitutional law and election law. Prior to founding Mathison Whittles, LLP with Stephen S. Mathison, John enjoyed a fourteen-year relationship with a highly regarded litigation firm in Miami/West Palm Beach—the last seven years as a Shareholder in that firm.

John obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree with a major in management from Florida Atlantic University in 1995. Prior to graduation, John studied International Marketing at the Helsinki School of Economics in Helsinki, Finland. John went on to substitute teach in the Palm Beach County public school system in 1995 and 1996. In December 1998, John graduated a full semester ahead of schedule and earned a Juris Doctorate degree, cum laude, from Nova Southeastern University. While studying at Nova Southeastern University in 1997, John was a staff member of the International Law Students’ Association’s Journal of International and Comparative Law and would go on to become Technical Editor of that publication in 1998. While in law school, John also served on the Moot Court Team and was a member of the Phi Delta Phi International Legal Fraternity.

John is admitted to practice in all Florida trial and appellate courts and is also admitted in the United States District Court’s Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, the United States Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.logo_florida-bar-board-certified-CivilTrialLawcertifiedlogo

A Palm Beach County resident for almost forty years, John is an active member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association and in 2009 was elected by his peers to serve on that association’s Board of Directors, a position he continues to hold today. John was previously elected to be President of the Palm Beach County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section, an organization in which he previously held every elected officer position. John has served the Palm Beach County Bar Association in various leadership rolls, including as Chairperson of the 2010 Bench/Bar Conference and, in 2013-14, as Co-Chairperson of the Committee for Diversity and Inclusion. John is also an alumnus of the Craig S. Barnard American Inn of Court LICV and is a 2004 Graduate of Leadership Palm Beach County.

Between 2005 and 2007, John held the position of Adjunct Professor at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida where he taught courses in labor relations.

In recent years, John has represented a wide variety of clients, including Fortune 500 companies, financial institutions, high-tech companies, small businesses, individuals, municipalities, political parties, local elected officials and current members of the United States Congress. John has successfully tried many jury cases to verdict and has also tried many non-jury trials, arbitrations and administrative proceedings. John truly relishes being “on his feet” and advocating for his clients.
